An elderly couple in Texas might just have won the award for kindest restaurateurs. While the husband delivers excellent service as an attendant, the wife matches his effort by making great meals, and together, they still reject extra tips despite their outstanding service. A video posted on TikTok showed a customer’s firsthand account of his experience at the Mom and Pop Thai restaurant for a solo date.
The video opened with him entering the empty restaurant and greeting an elderly man seated and ready to attend to him. He asked if he could dine in, and the man gave a definite yes. For his meal, the customer ordered shrimp rolls, pork barbecue skewers, and crispy garlic chicken. As the customer placed his order and paid with his card, he asked, “How do I leave a tip?” The old man responded, “We are not big on tips,” even as the customer insisted he would bring some cash later. “Come back again, that’s better than any tip you can leave in a jar,” he added.
Soon after, he began serving the customer, starting with the appetizer, and even taught him how to properly enjoy his meal. He continued serving him dish after dish, being the only server, and even checked on him when he noticed the sun was shining on the area where he sat. When the customer complimented the food, the old man proudly fetched his business partner, his wife, and affirmed that she made all the meals.
