Unfortunately, there have been many recent reports showing that trafficking across America is on the rise. One state that keeps coming up is Utah. Several moms have spoken out about moments when they felt they were almost targeted, and the latest example came from a mother who shared her experience after a trip to Lowe’s with her 3-year-old daughter. After leaving the store, she walked to her car, which was parked not far from the entrance. She let her daughter climb into the car through one of the doors, and that’s when she noticed a Honda Accord parked directly behind her. The sudden appearance of the vehicle immediately raised her concern.
As soon as the Utah mom noticed the car, she shut the door behind her daughter. The woman inside the Honda then did something unsettling. She reached her hand out of the window, holding something wrapped in fabric. She asked the mom, “Can I give you a toy for your girl?” Of course, the mom refused. Instead of taking no for an answer, the woman insisted and said, “How rude” of her to refuse a toy. So again, the mom said no. What happened next could have ended terribly. According to the mom, the lady got irritated and started getting out of her car.
Thankfully, the mom managed to get inside her car and lock the doors. Since no car was parked in front of her, she managed to drive away immediately. Who knows what could have happened if she had waited for the woman to exit her vehicle? She also made sure to file a police report, and they told her that this is a trafficking scheme that has been happening. Since there are a lot of similar stories coming out, the mom said that what saved her was one of these stories that she saw recently. She also advised people to be aware of their surroundings. At this point, hurting strange people’s feelings and saying no to gifts Is a good thing if it means protecting your kid.
People Reacting to the Utah Mom’s Urgent Warning
Not a lot of people found the Utah mom’s story surprising because of how common trafficking attempts are becoming. This made one person say, “utah is becoming a big trafficking state. Be careful.” Several people believed that the state has always been like this as another person replied, “Becoming? It has been for quite awhile. You’re just now hearing it more often.” More comments agreed as one woman also said, “I just assumed it was public knowledge that utah is a hotspot for trafficking so scary.” Another woman pointed out how this scary situation isn’t rare. “This is the 3rd story like this I’ve heard this week!” she said.
A lot of moms also left comments sharing advice to any parents out there. “Moms also please load your kids in the car before your groceries! I rather leave a cart of groceries then getting my kid taken!” one woman wrote. Another woman also said, “Yup exactly I turn the car on and heater /AC. Close the doors and lock it . When I didn’t have a push to start car I always made my oldest lock the door and unlock it for me when I finished loading . So sad what a world we live in now but it is what it is.” One mom even stated that she will no longer go with her daughter to places on their own. “This is the third video I’ve seen about stuff like this happening in Utah. I will not be going anywhere with just my daughter and I,” she wrote. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
