As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry face strained relationships with their ailing fathers, royal experts suggest the emotional damage may be beyond repair, despite public gestures, private letters, and mounting health concerns on both sides.
Meghan Markle’s Rift with Father Deepens Beyond Repair

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams offered a bleak assessment (via Fox) of Meghan Markle’s fractured bond with her father, saying, “Meghan and her father will never reconcile.” He described the estrangement as long-standing and deeply personal, adding, “Her relationship with her father, which is a tragedy for both of them, is nothing short of a mess.”
According to Fitzwilliams:
“Her family sounds appalling. Her half-sister was behind the staged paparazzi photographs, which led to a rift with her father, who has also widely criticized her in the media. That has certainly led to a complete breakdown in their relationship.”
Thomas Markle, who is currently hospitalized following a serious medical emergency, has publicly expressed a desire not to die estranged from his daughter. Still, reports suggest that Meghan is unwilling to speak by phone, opting instead for a letter due to concerns about leaks. According to experts, years of media fallout, family interference, and broken trust have hardened her resolve. As one royal watcher put it, “Meghan has been seriously hurt by her father over the years.”
Harry’s Royal Reconciliation Hopes Also Falter

Prince Harry’s efforts to rebuild ties with King Charles appear equally uncertain. While he previously expressed regret over ongoing conflicts, saying, “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. I don’t know how much longer my father has,” insiders suggest progress has stalled.
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich believes the divide remains vast, noting, “I don’t anticipate any proper reconciliation with either of their sick fathers, given the massive rift in both instances.” She added that recent meetings were driven more by duty than healing, explaining, “The meeting between the king and Harry was more about constitutional duty and fatherly decency, at least from the king’s side.”
Despite rumors of behind-the-scenes peace talks, skepticism reigns. As one commentator bluntly dismissed palace speculation, “‘Project Thaw’ sounds like an ayahuasca hallucination.” For now, experts agree that while Harry and Meghan remain united, reconciliation with their fathers remains painfully out of reach.
