Mickey Rourke is pushing back against claims he sought public help to avoid eviction after a GoFundMe bearing his name surged past $100,000. The veteran actor says the fundraiser does not reflect who he is, calling the situation embarrassing, misleading, and out of character for how he handles personal crises.
Mickey Rourke took to Instagram, looking visibly upset, and insisted that the viral fundraiser was not his doing. The actor described himself as “confused” and “frustrated,” bluntly telling fans:
“That’s not me, OK?” He went further, claiming he had no involvement or understanding of crowdfunding platforms, adding that he “wouldn’t know what a GoFund[Me] foundation is in a million years.”
Rourke made it clear he has no interest in public donations, stressing his personal code of pride. “If I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no [expletive] charity,” he said, delivering one of his most striking statements yet. He emphasized that asking strangers for help is not who he is, explaining that it’s not his “style” to “ask strangers or fans or anybody for a nickel.”
The actor also urged anyone who contributed to the fundraiser to “get [their] money back,” distancing himself entirely from the effort and its growing total.

Addressing the mystery behind the fundraiser, Rourke suggested there may be someone responsible, but stopped short of naming them. “There’s only one person I can think of that would do such a thing, and I hope it’s not the person I’m thinking about,” he said, admitting the situation was “humiliating.”

Rourke also reflected on his financial reality, acknowledging career missteps and personal struggles. “I wasn’t diplomatic,” he admitted, referencing the “really terrible job” he has done managing his career. Opening up further, he shared, “I had to go to over 20 years of therapy to get over the damage that was done to me years ago,” adding, “I’m not that person anymore.”
While reports describe him as “rich poor” and living “paycheck-to-paycheck,” Rourke confirmed he recently borrowed money “from a great friend” as he navigates the fallout.
