Unsealed deposition documents suggest Taylor Swift wasn’t just caught off guard by the Blake Lively–Justin Baldoni fallout, but was actively participating in strategy discussions.
In one early December 2024 message referencing Baldoni and a looming exposé, according to TMZ, Swift wrote, “I think this [expletive] knows something is coming because he’s gotten out his tiny violin.”
Her messages went further, weighing in on the power dynamics surrounding the film. Swift texted, “If Justin was strategic, he would be like no Taylor Swift in the trailer because that gives you more power over the film, that’s your ally not his.”
Lively later explained Swift’s proximity to the situation, saying, “I sent Taylor the script on her way to my apartment because Justin was still there, and I asked her to read them. I told her she didn’t have to, I didn’t want her to feel pressure to do that, but I hope that she would.” Swift replied, “I’ll do anything for you!!”
After the meeting, Lively praised her friend’s role, texting, “You were so epically heroic today. I recapped every moment to Ryan. I kept remembering stuff — You making s* up about me and lenses. And referring to yourself as my doll.” She added, “This clown falling for all of it. But also resisting it. You are the worlds absolute greatest friend ever.”
Others were harsher, accusing Swift of bullying, while some urged restraint, noting that allegations against Baldoni remain serious and unresolved. Still, the court exhibits have shifted perception.
Justin Baldoni Lawsuit Fuels Online Debate Over Taylor Swift’s Involvement
While Justin Baldoni denies all allegations against him, the unsealed texts have fueled debate about Swift’s level of involvement, especially after her team previously insisted she had none.
A spokesperson had said, “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie… she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release.” That disconnect is what many fans seized on.
One Reddit commenter wrote, “So my biggest takeaway is that Taylor’s team lied in their public statement saying Taylor had absolutely nothing to do with the film…these texts prove otherwise. Blake’s case aside, this is not a good look for Taylor or her team. She was mad she was brought into it when she herself got involved in it from the beginning. She needs to be held accountable!” An X user stated that Swift turned into a ‘mean girl’ like Blake.
For Swift, the texts may not change the case’s legal outcome. However, they’ve undeniably exposed her to a level of scrutiny she long tried to avoid.
