New York is currently experiencing some of its coldest weeks in recent history, with the state’s largest city buried under nearly a foot of snow last week. While the constant cold has caused many problems for New Yorkers, an ingenious group of Harlem residents saw this as an amazing opportunity, using the snow to improvise an incredible slopestyle skiing course in the middle of a park.

In a recent video shared on social media, a group of three men can be seen on the snowy streets of Harlem, New York City. One individual is helped by two others as he prepares to descend a man-made snow slope. They pull him with all their strength to build up the momentum, and the urban athlete goes on to quickly jump onto a rail and slide down it perfectly.

The event has clearly caught the attention of people nearby: some can be seen recording the skier’s moves, and even the narrator himself seems amazed by the situation. While the video is fairly short, the skiers likely kept going for a while, as they had the perfect course to try out some really cool moves in the middle of the city.

People Online Are Amazed by New York Skier’s Skill

The video quickly became popular online, impressing people with the novelty of the idea and the skier’s high skill level. One commenter on social media revealed that “I was expecting some clumsy Jackass-type stunt but that was amazing.” Clearly, the man in the video was an experienced skier, as noted by viewers, who explained that it could have taken years of practice to pull off the maneuver.

Others highlighted the creativity of the whole endeavour, saying that “This is the exact kind of creative urban riding I love to see. It’s incredible how they turned a mundane spot into a proper feature.”

While most people were impressed by the video, others took their time to complain about the caption, saying that events like this happen “only in NYC.” While the largest city in America has plenty of highly creative people, folks have been arguably creative in coming up with unique ways to have fun after snowstorms for decades across the country. Hopefully, New York residents will continue to find joy in unexpected places as they face the difficulties of the current cold climate.
