A woman in Tampa, Florida, was surprised when a “lady friend” gifted her a box from a very prominent jewelry store. Excited, she decided to open the box she had just received, only to be overwhelmingly disappointed when all she could find inside was a rubber band.
The clip was shared online by Allexis Joi. She is a TikTok content creator who shares vlogs, lifestyle content, and even grocery hauls. This time around, however, she went viral, with the original clip garnering 3.2 million views, 216,700 views, and more than 3,000 comments.
The Florida woman explained in a subsequent clip that it was her father who contacted her about the gift, a box from David Yurman, a jewelry company founded in New York City. According to him, a “lady friend” of his had gotten the gift for her, and he was the one responsible for the delivery.
Allexis, understandably, was excited. Even though she didn’t know the brand, she expected something fancy, as the box itself was very sophisticated. Figuring she didn’t want to keep the surprise to herself, she decided to record the unboxing and share it on TikTok.
Rubber Band Found
In an unedited clip, Allexis is shown opening the box. Lots of paper decorations were filled inside it, alongside a smaller box with a white ribbon. Inside that box, she found another box, and she began to say, “Okay, okay…” as her expectations grew.
Inside the final box, there was a rubber band. Listed on the store’s official website, you can find the same item, a men’s “Cable Bracelet” made out of orange rubber, listed at $20.
The Florida woman, realizing what her gift actually was, started to laugh and told her friend to stop recording. She would later add that, at the bottom of the box, there was a package of RYZE Mushroom Coffee. The cheapest variety, according to RYZE’s website, is even pricier than the rubber band mentioned above.
Internet Reacts To Underwhelming Surprise
Some users found the clip hilarious and decided to laugh along with Allexis. One viewer commented, “That could’ve been an email.” Another one wrote, “The packaging is more expensive than the bracelet.”
Other viewers believed Allexis shouldn’t complain, as it was, after all, a gift. One person said, “It was a gift. Did you expect a $600 cable bracelet? I’m confused.” The Florida woman answered, “Anyone would’ve expected more than this.” Finally, some even theorized that her father’s “lady friend” had the box as a sample or promo package.
Still flabbergasted by the rubber band gift, Allexis wondered if the “lady friend” had done it on purpose and was “playing in her face” or was just trying to be nice.
