These encounters often appear as demonstrators confronting ICE agents whenever they are trying to detain someone. Insults and yelling are frequently heard during these confrontations. Sometimes the ICE agents simply ignore the protesters, but other times they respond directly. In this particular incident, a Minnesota woman was misgendered by an ICE agent during a tense exchange caught on video.
In the video uploaded to Reddit, the clip begins with a male protester confronting and insulting an ICE agent while recording. The situation is already heated, with voices raised and people demanding answers. The video then skips to another clip where a group of protesters can be seen following several ICE agents down the street. The protesters repeatedly ask the agents how they feel about abducting people from their families and tearing communities apart. The ICE agents continue walking at first, appearing to ignore the crowd surrounding them.
At one point, one of the ICE agents suddenly stops and turns around, staring directly at a female protester for several seconds. He then asks whether she is a man or not. His statement shocks the protesters so much that they fall silent for a moment. That silence is quickly broken by loud gasps and angry responses from the crowd, with several people beginning to shame the ICE agent for making such a remark. The protesters accuse him of being disrespectful and unprofessional, especially given the seriousness of the situation.
The ICE agent does not appear to care about the reaction. In another clip from the same video, the same agent can be seen standing next to his vehicle while Minnesota protesters surround him from a short distance away. He again addresses the same female protester he had misgendered earlier, calling her “sir” and repeatedly telling her to move away. The tension continues to rise as people shout back at him, accusing him of provoking the crowd on purpose.
The ICE agent eventually enters his vehicle, but the situation does not end there. Seemingly believing he is safe enough, he retaliates by opening the car door and slamming it into the female protester. She does not fall, but the action immediately angers those nearby. One protester responds by throwing a snowball at the now-closed car door. As the vehicle begins to pull away from the angry Minnesota protesters, the ICE agent opens the car door once again, this time extending his middle finger toward the crowd before driving off.
The internet was not impressed by the ICE agent’s behavior or his remarks toward the protester in Minnesota. Many described the act as childish and ridiculous.“That was really cheap and really boring. I hope he’s haunted forever by his lame words and actions. What a loser,” one user wrote.
Others remarked that the incident gave them ideas on how to annoy ICE agents in the future. “Time to address all male ICE agents as ‘ma’am.’ I bet it will rustle their jimmies,” one commenter wrote. Another user replied, “They all have fragile masculinity and deep-set insecurity. I think that would be a great idea for sure.”
