A woman allegedly noticed a man following her and her daughter around a Target in McKinney, Texas, and immediately took preventive measures. Upon noticing that the man had been just a few stalls away at every section they went, the woman recorded a video that was later posted on TikTok. The clip had text overlays on every scene explaining the encounter. The first was the woman asking people to help her identify the man, saying he had followed them around for over 15 minutes.
She noted that she had noticed the man following them, had to get her phone from her daughter, who was using it to watch videos, and then started to record him. In some of the sections, the man kept a bit of distance between them; in others, he was very close. The woman noted that she felt the man was recording her because he always kept his phone camera aimed at her as he turned, switching the phone between his hands. At the end of the clip, the woman noted that she reported to the security who escorted the man out and then saw her to her car after he had left.
The Digital Community Slams Stalkers And Proposed Strategies For Dealing With Them
Netizens flooded the comments with a mix of ethical condemnation, practical advice, and shared concern for shoppers’ safety.
One observer argues that being direct is necessary to deal with such uncomfortable encounters: “Normalize confronting them. Be loud about it.” Another agreed, noting that the man was actually recording the mother and daughter, and urged people to call out people like him. A viewer suggested that the man had a predatory intent towards the woman’s child, hoping that the woman did not drive straight home, probably leading him back to her house. Another questioned the unsettling proximity of the man in some parts of the clip while this TikToker expressed empathy for the mother and daughter and praised the mother’s protective instincts.
An individual noted that if they had been there, they would have been forced to confront the man. They then expressed a concern about the lack of safety becoming a universal experience for women. A user suggested that involving the store management could probably help identify the man. Another offered detailed advice, saying that anyone who finds themselves in such a situation should be vocal and ask a store employee whether the suspicious person is a member of security. If not, report the harassment immediately. One individual stated, “Texas has turned into a third world, women are not safe.”
The incident highlights the need for people to be conscious of their environment and remain on alert. Many users asserted that silence is no longer an option when safety is threatened.
