Being a FedEx driver can be incredibly challenging, dealing with tight schedules, heavy packages, and sometimes even confrontations with frustrated or hostile customers. Recently, in San Diego, a FedEx driver got into a racist confrontation with an irate customer, and he filmed the incident. After posting the footage on TikTok, it went viral, and as a consequence, FedEx reportedly fired the delivery driver.
The argument began after the driver was allegedly caught driving faster than the customer wanted while making deliveries in the complex. In the footage, a woman in a floral dress can be seen confronting the former FedEx driver. He states to her, “You can call in and ask all that. Here’s information right here. There’s a number on the back. We got cameras in there. So, everything’s recorded. They’ll see how fast that I’m going and all that.”
The woman claims that she was “hit by a trash truck,” which is the reason why she’s concerned about the delivery driver’s speed. However, the delivery driver doesn’t empathise with her, and instead fires back, “Okay, that ain’t my problem. Am I a trash truck?” Shockingly, this is when the interaction takes a sudden turn, as the woman gets out her phone, curses him, and calls the driver a racial slur several times.
Following the video going viral online, the former FedEx delivery driver — who has since been identified as Doug Ahmed — has confirmed that he was fired by his employer. In an interview with ABCNews, he said, “Really, really surprised it was happening. In the seven years I’ve been at FedEx, that was my first time being called that on the job. To post a video and get fired after is like a double slap in the face.”
As the video continues to circulate online, social media users took to the comments to share their thoughts on the incident. On Youtube, one person wrote, “That’s horrible to silence the truth by firing him instead of dealing with the problem and solving the conflict” while a second commenter chipped in with, “Yes, he can be fired for violating company policy, but Fed Ex needs to look at the totality of the situation.” A third added, “I hope he can sue Fed ex for firing him.” Over on Reddit, meanwhile, a further netizen remarked, ““i don’t order from FedEx” “Yeah.. because you can’t afford it” you know that made her mad on the walk back😂”“
