Though the political arena is usually meant for adults, students have now also decided to participate in it. This is mainly due to the fact that ICE agents have been regarded as acting so out of line that many teens feel threatened and believe they need to make a stand. This has resulted in them performing many walkouts and protests throughout the country. Recently, some high school students in Texas also performed a protest outside their school, yet this event also drew an unexpected incident where a woman was recorded confronting the kids. In the video, the woman was seen surrounded by the Texas high school protesters. There was shouting everywhere, so it was quite hard to make out what the woman was saying.
At one point, one of the students yelled at the woman to join them in the protest. The woman said something to the Texas student protesters that the video failed to capture, though there were more shouts from the teens. Eventually, we heard the woman say she was looking for her kid, and it seemed she wanted to take them home. The woman also appeared to warn the Texas student protesters, telling them to go home too and mentioning the dangers of protesting like this, but the students replied that they didn’t care. More yelling erupted. Not too long after that, the woman was approached by two officers who talked to her, and the three of them walked away.
Online, internet users perceived the woman as someone who was trying to discourage the Texas student protesters from continuing. Some users felt that the woman was overstepping boundaries and that she had no right to tell the teens what to do. “It doesn’t take much to just mind your business,” one user said. Another wrote, “Lady, sit down and mind your business. If you’re not with them, are you against them? They’re not hurting you, so back up and stop trying to intimidate children.”
Of course, there were also those who agreed with the woman, believing that these Texas students shouldn’t be acting like protesters and should remain in school. “The kids have the right intentions, just not the right ways,” one user said. A handful even outright disagreed with the teens’ stance regarding ICE. One commenter wrote,“You hear these kids? This generation is doomed. These kids can’t even think for themselves. They can barely write from what I’ve seen.”
