Considering where the United States stands right now, it isn’t very surprising that people are doing everything they can just to keep their heads above water. Unfortunately for some, this also means finding alternative places to shelter for the night. One Howard University professor in Washington DC was shocked to allegedly discover a homeless woman sheltering in a classroom she was scheduled to teach in that day.
This particular video both highlights the lengths some people will go to in order to stay safe and the gaps in campus security. Commenters were gracious at how the original poster handled the situation, though were wary that if the person was a man or someone else entirely, things could have been very different.
The above video was posted to the social media platform TikTok by @djwildchildd. When she isn’t pursuing her PhD at Howard University, she’s tearing up the nightlife with her skills as DJ WILDCHILD. In this video, she records herself setting up a classroom that looks more like a storage room or warehouse of sorts, with a large amount of floor space. She talks about how she is going to set it up and begins filming herself moving tables from place to place.
However, as she continues to move tables, you can see a figure move in the background. Considering that she had originally thought the room to be empty, DJ WILDCHILD was surprised and called out, saying, “ohhh one sec is someone back there?” Not a moment later, you can see that the figure is actually a woman holding a bag, walking out to leave the room.
It’s unclear if this person is a student at the school or simply a homeless person, though that didn’t stop the internet from making assumptions. Many people were particularly grateful to DJ WILDCHILD for her behavior and not making the other woman feel bad, with one comment saying, “I was unhoused during winter.. you never know what you’ll do to survive until you have to survive. Thank you for giving her grace in both the video and comments❤️.”
Homeless Woman Found in Howard University Classroom
Other commenters were more focused on the security implications that this means, with one person saying, “Prayers to her, yet this is a huge problem/security issue. God forbid it was a person with ill intentions. I would bring this up with someone who has the ability to address this.” Another person was a bit more direct and wrote, “Ngl at least it was woman who was just looking for someone warm to sleep. This could’ve went a completely different way if it was a man…“
Hopefully, if that woman is really homeless, she can get the services she needs in a kind manner. As for DJ WILDCHILD, I truly commend how she handled the situation and hope it isn’t something she needs to deal with again.
