Police Tickets Florida Woman For Driving With Phone in Hand, But She Doesn’t Have a Hand, ‘She can handle this situation single-handedly’

There have been accounts of both ICE agents and police officers acting irrationally over the last year, varying from small offenses to larger, more fatal ones. However, they’re not above being ridiculous, either. One Florida woman discovered this firsthand when she was ticketed for texting and driving. However, she doesn’t even have the hand that the officer accused her of holding the phone in.

It’s quite ridiculous that she received the ticket at all, especially since it implies that she wasn’t using her hand to steer the vehicle. What’s even crazier is how much the officer doubled down on his accusation, even after realizing it was dumb.

The above video depicts an adaptive athlete and TikTok user named @slightlyoff.balance being accused of texting and driving by an officer, despite her not even having the hand he said the phone was being held in. That’s right, when he pulled up to her window to explain exactly what the ticket was for, he had allegedly claimed that he saw her holding a phone in her right hand.

She shows a video of the interaction, with the officer clearly saying, “Ok ma’am, so, you’re gonna receive a citation for a wireless communication device handheld while driving. You can’t, we gotta put the phone down as we operate a motor vehicle.” She then immediately asks, “Oh, and you put on there that you saw me with my right hand holding it.” It also seems as though the officer tried to find a way to retaliate.

However, when she pressed the officer about his accusation, he shot back with, “I’m not disagreeing with you. Yes, that’s what I said.” He then issues the citation anyway, even informing her how she can challenge it in court.

Florida Woman Given Traffic Citation For Texting and Driving Despite Not Having Hand

It’s interesting to me that even after realizing that she doesn’t have a hand, the officer didn’t question how she would be driving the vehicle if she had her single hand on her phone. At the end of the video, she simulates how she would have been able to hold the phone in her hand, which, of course, she can’t.

Commenters were all quick to jump in and give their opinions, with many poking fun at the situation. In fact, one person even said, “She won’t even need a lawyer. She can handle this situation single-handedly.” Others were a little harsher, with one comment saying, “Request for a court to put him on a Brady list, it will end his career.”

There haven’t been any updates posted about the situation, though I hope it is able to get resolved because it truly is a ridiculous situation.
