An Outpouring of Love from Grey’s Anatomy Co-Stars After Eric Dane’s Death
Dane’s former castmates shared heartfelt memories of the actor who brought charm and mischief to the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial.
Kim Raver, via Instagram, reflected on his presence both on and off set. “Eric was a light. You’d see it effortlessly shine from him on the set of Grey’s as well as when he was with Rebecca and the girls,” she wrote. “During filming, he’d get this twinkle in his eye and with a mischievous look, he would deliver with perfect comedic timing, a line of dialogue that would floor you! You will be missed 🤍.”
Executive producer Krista Vernoff recalled reconnecting with Dane for his 2021 cameo by sharing a screenshot of texts with the deceased. “I called Eric and he answered immediately,” she shared, remembering how eager he was to return. She added, “The thing I will remember most about Eric Dane are his hugs. The best hugs. Oh my friend. I wish you peace.”
Patrick Dempsey has also opened up about their bond in a recent interview. “I feel really so sad for his children,” he said, noting they had spoken just a week before Dane’s passing. Despite the heartbreak, Dempsey emphasized the joy Dane brought to set: “He was the funniest man – he was such a joy to work with and I want to just remember him in that spirit because any time he was on set, he brought so much fun to it.”
His ALS Advocacy and Courage Inspired Countless Fans
In a statement, ABC and 20th Television honored the late actor’s strength. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Eric Dane,” they said. “His remarkable talent and unforgettable presence on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ left a lasting impact on audiences around the world, and his courage and grace during his battle with ALS inspired so many.”
Dane’s family confirmed he spent his final days surrounded by loved ones. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world,” they shared, adding that “He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always.”
The man who once stole scenes as McSteamy is now remembered not only for his talent but for the light he carried through his final chapter.
