Kristi Noem and Pam Bondi are among the two most well-known and infamous female figures in the Trump administration. Many people have expressed their dislike toward them for one reason or another. Recently, a Native American scholar named Nick Estes spoke up about what he thought about Kristi Noem. The man is an enrolled member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe and is also working as an Associate Professor in American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota. He explained how the nine Indian tribes in South Dakota have banned Kristi Noem from their reservations. He said that this is because of Kristi Noem’s outwardly hostile attitudes toward Native Americans while working as the South Dakota governor.
Estes further accused Kristi Noem of exacerbating what he called an ongoing structural genocide against Native Americans. He claimed that Native Americans currently have a life expectancy of 58 years, which he said is roughly two decades shorter than that of white Americans. As additional evidence, he pointed to an incident during the pandemic when Kristi Noem threatened to deploy the National Guard to South Dakota tribes that had established health checkpoints on their lands.
That was not the end, though, as Estes also claimed that Kristi Noem had created fusion agencies made to target water protectors in South Dakota. He theorized that she was angry after Native Americans fought against the Keystone XL pipeline. Kristi Noem had also painted Native American reservations in South Dakota as hotbeds for Mexican cartels. Estes remarked that what is currently happening in America is just Kristi Noem using her old tactics on the nation as a whole.
Many internet users agreed with Estes’ remarks and accusations. Critics argued that what Kristi Noem and the Trump administration were doing amounted to fearmongering about immigrants as part of a broader effort to consolidate power in America. “She is the worst,” one user said.
Others also chimed in, saying that people should stop being misled by Kristi Noem, arguing that her record in South Dakota already revealed her true intentions.“What an excellent synopsis of what this corrupt grifter is all about. She thinks she can cosplay ‘one of you’ for the MAGA cult, but she was never ‘one of them.’ She’s a rich 1%er who’s just gotten richer and richer by playing up the hate and suppression of brown people. I hope when this is over she’s one of the first to face the courts for all her crimes against humanity!” one Redditor wrote.
