A group of girls in California decided to have Quinceanera practice in their yard, and that is totally their right. In the privacy of your own yard, you should be able to make noise and have fun in the daytime, right? Well, one Karen was seemingly a member of the ‘fun police’ and made some noise.
Posted by TikTok user Ntxt._lie (Nurh), the video started out fine enough, wholesome even. Nurh and her friends were doing their thing, practicing their dance with music to fit the mood, too. As they were practicing, the neighborhood Karen suddenly decided to ruin their fun and make it about her. She came outside and started cutting her grass and using a leaf blower to very obviously try and drown out their music.
Then, Nurh said the neighbor started confronting them, which she caught on video. The Karen can be heard screaming, “Hey!” at the top of her lungs and telling them to turn off the music. The girls seem to try and ignore her and keep on dancing.
Eventually, one of the girls turns off the music and you can hear the neighbor calling out, “You guys are being disrespectful!” She then goes on and tells them nobody wants to hear their “stupid Mexican [expletive]” and all the teens gasp at this.
The teens and the neighbor fight back and forth until she tells them she’s calling the police over it. The teens ask her, “Why are you fighting with minors? Go get a hobby! Go get a job!” Unfortunately, no update was provided on what came of the situation and if she actually called police.
People on TikTok Call the Neighbor Out for Racism
Given the neighbor’s response, particularly the comment referring to Nurh’s music in offensive terms, users online criticized the neighbor and accused them of racism. Others questioned why the confrontation escalated at all.
One commenter called it out for what it was, saying, “It was never about the music I’m sorry.” When someone asked for clarification, many responded the same: it was because of racism.
Another TikTok user was baffled someone would even complain about noise during the day. “I’ll understand if it was nighttime but during the day be fr😭.” And aren’t older generations always complaining that kids don’t go outside enough?
Many suggested Nurh and her friends be petty about it. “Turn the music up louder,” one said, while another suggested having a “big BBQ” and inviting the comment section.
Some commenters argued that the noise was not harmful, noting that residential neighborhoods naturally come with everyday sounds from nearby homes. Others suggested the timing of the disturbance was what drew the most concern, with opinions divided in the comments.
