After all the tragedy Minnesota has endured at the hands of federal agents, Minnesotans are fighting back. After months of taking to the streets to protest, some locals are rallying around a new idea. Rather than marching through the streets, they’ve started a new sport they’re calling “ICE fishing.”
In a video posted to Reddit, one local explains how to participate. “So if you didn’t hear, Minneapolis, Minnesota invented their own sport,” the local says. “ICE fishing! It’s a great sport. If you didn’t hear about it, you take a Mexican flag, you stick it in your car. But the kicker: You’re a legal citizen. You have documentation to be here. You just want ICE to bite the hook to distract them from what they’re really there to do.”
He goes on, saying, “And that’s harass other people. So, if you can take the harassment, and if you like the sport, let’s go ICE fishing.” His encouragement was met by thousands of others watching the video on social media. As it turns out, not only do many support the new sport, but they are also applauding Minneapolis for bearing the brunt of ICE agents in place of others.
Ready to Help the Cause
As the video circulates on social media, others are rallying around Minneapolis’s newest pastime. “It’s my patriotic duty to give back to the country that has given me so much[ for 9+ generations],” one user comments. “Should be an Olympic sport,” writes another Redditor.
The message has even reached those outside of Minneapolis who are still willing to support Minnesota. “NJ here. Slapped a couple of Mexican flag decals on our family vehicles. Now we wait…,” a Redditor says. Others responded by calling the user “mad brave,” and leaving emoji salutes. Among these comments, some still emphasized caution. “They make no effort at all to provide medical care, and they take away your ability to provide it for yourself. So kudos to anyone who is willing and able to risk this, but it could easily become deadly for some of us, citizenship or not,” one user says warily.
