Chet Hanks, son of the famous actor Tom Hanks, has found himself in an unexpected international bind. The actor and musician revealed on Instagram that he’s currently stranded in Medellin, Colombia, after a passport mix-up left him unable to board a flight back to the United States. And yes, the internet is having an absolute field day.
How Chet Hanks Ended Up Stuck Abroad
“Ya’ll ready for story time?” Chet said in an Instagram video shared Friday, February 27, explaining that he had traveled to Puerto Rico last week for his “home Max’s birthday party,” where he “had a good time.”
From there, he decided to make a spontaneous stop in Medellin to visit a friend named Taylor. “Sounds good, right?” he said. “We’ll check this out.” Things quickly took a turn.
“I’m traveling with my Greek passport because I’m a dual citizen,” he explained, noting he didn’t use his American passport because it’s about to expire, “and sometimes they don’t let you in the country, even if it hasn’t expired, but it’s about to expire.”
When he arrived at the airport three hours early for his international flight, he said staff informed him that traveling on a foreign passport required additional documentation. “This is an international flight. They tell me that if I’m using a foreign passport, I need a green card to get back into America.”
“I don’t have a green card because I’m an American citizen,” he added. “I’m literally stuck in Colombia. I’m stuck in Medellin.”
While he admitted, “Granted, there’s worse places to be stuck,” he also confessed, “I literally have no [expletive] idea what I’m gonna do, and the only embassy to get this [expletive] settled is in Bogota.” Not thrilled about that option, he joked at the end of the clip, “Free me.”
Fans Turn Tom Hanks’ Son Travel Mishap Into Comedy Gold
The comments section quickly transformed his travel headache into full-blown entertainment. “Better call someone in your family to have them FedEx your passport to you ASAP,” one user quipped.
“Time to start a family out there 😂,” another joked, while someone else teased, “lol have a nice life in Medellin.” Plenty of followers couldn’t resist bringing up his famous father, Tom.
“The one time you should’ve pulled the ‘my dad is…’ card,” one commenter wrote. Another didn’t hold back: “chet call your [expletive] daddy! 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️”
Even TV viewers had their priorities straight, regardless of Chet’s situation. “I don’t mean to make this all about me.. but how does this impact season 2 of Running Point?” one fan asked the Running Point actor.
For now, Chet remains in Colombia, trying to figure out his way home while the internet continues to offer equal parts advice and amusement.
