A combat veteran living in Texas is going viral on TikTok after he shared a sobering warning about the potential consequences that could occur due to the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. The man who said he had served multiple tours in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, which lasted for more than 7 years, stated, “I’ve got to tell you, barring politics and everything, we’re talking about cold, hard facts here. Our young men and women are about to die for an old man’s fight.”

He added, “These hands folded thirty six flags. In four months. More flags will be folded and they will be draped over the caskets of our children. Do y’all understand the gravity of this situation?”

The veteran pointed to recent reports about Iranian drones targeting the Ras Tanura oil refinery in Saudi Arabia. According to The New York Times, the drones were intercepted, but debris from the attack still fell and sparked a fire near the facility. He argued that strikes on this oil infrastructure could further escalate the conflict because Saudi Arabia is a major energy partner of the United States.

In the video, The Texas veteran also spoke about the emotional toll war can have on those who serve, revealing that several of his close friends had passed away after suffering from deep traumas and survivor’s guilt. “I wish that I could fill these gaps in this video with something other than flashbacks that you can’t see that are behind my eyes. Flashbacks that my buddies saw,” he said. “God, I never thought I’d see this twice in my lifetime. We’re in trouble.”

Throughout the clip, the veteran appeared very emotional, pausing at several points as he searched for the right words to describe the memories that still haunt him.

Military Families Share Their Concerns

The veteran’s TikTok has racked up more than 300,000 likes and has received plenty of emotional reactions from viewers, many of whom said they were thinking about family members currently serving in the military.

Some commenters expressed gratitude for his service while also sharing their own fears about what might happen if the conflict escalates. “I work with military families and I am so worried,” one person wrote. Another said, “My son is there, I’m just sick.” A third shared, “My father started crying from his hospital bed while he watched the news. he is a navy veteran during the gulf war. he stated its happening again.”

Some also felt the situation highlights a growing class divide when it comes to who ultimately bears the cost of war. One Texas netizen remarked, “Our troops dying for the entertainment of the rich,” while another added, “They send their children to college while sending our children to war.”
