Technology has certainly become helpful for many of our daily tasks, but that doesn’t mean we are free of frustrating situations involving some devices. In this case, we’re talking about the infamous self-driving vehicles, more specifically, Waymo. As you know, Waymo has been in more controversies than it should, and it seems there are no signs of this stopping, especially when people share their annoyances with these cars. Recently, a driver in Los Angeles, California, recorded themselves as they drove behind two Waymo vehicles, proving that these “hi-tech” machines might be the main cause of frustration on certain LA roads.
As you know, finding Waymo vehicles around the city isn’t something new. However, when people see one, they try to keep their distance, as they often lead to some wacky situations that people would rather stay away from. Yet, in the case of this poor soul, that was almost impossible, as they found themselves stuck behind two of these cars.
In the video, which the OP captioned as “Rare aesthetic. You’re already late and driving in LA,” you can see two Waymo vehicles driving side by side at the same slow speed. Now, at first, this might not seem infuriating, but it is. These so-called hi-tech vehicles tend to drive at somewhat slow speeds, and while you can always drive past one of those to go on your merry way, it was impossible for this driver to do that, as both lanes were occupied by the cars.
Ideally, these advanced cars should have the technology to check their surroundings and stick to one lane, but no, it seems that whatever AI these vehicles use is pushing Waymo to stick next to each other to start blocking cars. Well, we know that isn’t the actual goal of the AI, but it’s frustrating that the cars can’t leave a lane free for other drivers.
In any case, Redditors shared the OP’s frustration and joined the chorus chanting against Waymo.
“That’s the 7th ring of Hell,” commented one user.
“They should be self-aware. If they sense another Waymo traveling in the same direction, they should be programmed to form a single-file line in the right lane,” said another user.
On the other hand, several Redditors also roasted the OP, claiming that recording while driving is dangerous, and even defended the Waymo vehicles, which were going at the speed limit in a residential area. Still, we can all agree that this would frustrate anyone, so let’s hope the AI gets some fixes to make driving less stressful for those around these cars.
