A plus-size woman visited a fitness store in Orlando, Florida. According to her, the employees, shortly after looking at her, started to laugh at her. Little did they know that she was postpartum at the time, and that her clip talking about the incident was gonna land the store in hot water.
TikToker Kim Can Do shared her unfortunate experience at ALO, the aforementioned Florida fitness store. At the time, she was looking for a gym bag to store all her belongings. After an unsuccessful visit to Lululemon and Under Armour at a local mall, she decided to step foot inside ALO.
Three ALO employees were standing inside the store. One of them, a woman, approached Kim and began to say, “Hi. Can I help you?” However, she interrupted herself mid-sentence, looked the Florida woman up and down, and started laughing, saying, “Oh God!“
Then, according to the plus-size woman, the employee turned toward her colleagues and talked to them in Spanish. Moments later, all three of them looked at Kim and started laughing. “There are no words to describe how I felt at that moment,” she added.
Postpartum, Reactions
Kim then gave some valuable context. Two months before this extremely inappropriate interaction, she gave birth to her daughter. That means that she was postpartum when the employees laughed at her, so their bullying came at a period of great physical and emotional turmoil.
“It takes a lot some days to get out of the house and put myself together,” the Florida woman said. “Also, you don’t know what people are going through. You don’t know what people are dealing with. Just be kind. That was uncalled for.”
Kim concluded her video saying that other stores had treated her with respect. She also asked ALO to train its employees better “to be decent humans.”
The clip went viral, garnering more than 50,000 likes and 3,000 comments. People overwhelmingly supported Kim and blasted ALO for the alleged bullying that its employees subjected her to.
“I spent 500 dollars there today, I’ll return tomorrow,” one user said. Another one told ALO, “You can pay all the influencers you want to promote your brand. Once you have a bad reputation, it’s over.” A third one commented, “I’ve never shopped ALO, and def won’t be now.”
As of the writing of this article, ALO has yet to address Kim’s claims.
