Among the positions of medicine, nurses seem to have the most drama dealing with the day-to-day healthcare system. They can, after all, perform all sorts of niches. One nurse in California showed the sometimes stressful side of caring for elderly patients when one got a tad testy with her.
TikTok user Only1naee7 (Nae) shared on her personal profile of an elderly patient’s rude comments to her. “You get yourself outta here, while you can still walk” the patient says. When asked what she would do if Nae didn’t leave, she threatened to “beat” Nae up. Nae expertly diffused her threat by saying she was there visiting someone.
While the elderly woman continues to tell Nae to skedaddle out of her “apartment,” she continues to ignore her. However, this doesn’t stop the patient from mimicking calls for backup to police that aren’t there. Nae whispers in her video that she doesn’t even have a phone.
Nae shares a sliver of what it’s like as a nurse sometimes. “One minute I’m such a nice person, next minute idkkk,” she wrote in her caption.
Nae’s comment section garnered hundreds of responses, over 2,000 bookmarks, and nearly 46,000 likes. Given how Nae handled the situation, even if the elderly patient was rude, people found some humor in it. Several nurses even chimed in to share their experiences.
People on TikTok Reacted With a Mix of Solidarity and Humor
One nurse wrote, “She’s your favorite ain’t she?! Lmao.” The conversations with any of her elderly patients have to be interesting.
Another nurse spoke of a favorite patient of hers, who she was close enough to “curse like siblings.” Though she thought of her as a “pain in the”, they both knew they cared for one another. Though one nurse admitted she would have “argued my whole shift.”
One commenter argued, “You can’t even be mad, it’s funny af.” Even Nae found it difficult to keep a straight face when the patient ‘called’ the police.
One TikTok user, who wasn’t a nurse, shared that they would have been too “immature” for the CNA life. Jobs involving people tend to have friction. Being a nurse in particular can increase your odds of caring for elderly patients with dementia, according to the NIH.
