A driver in Connecticut was turning onto a road that merges with a highway when his fridge flew off his truck. The fridge wasn’t secured and fell off after he accelerated from the traffic light intersection. A woman caught the whole ordeal on her dashcam and shared it to Reddit, where hundreds criticized the man for not tying down his load.
“I am just glad this didn’t happen on the highway where we were headed,” remarked Evilelfqueen, who posted a clip of the man’s fridge on r/dashcams. Not only was there a fridge lying in the middle of the intersection, but the driver and his passenger also parked the truck on the road leading to the highway, blocking other traffic. Many commenters argue that this unfortunate incident was well-deserved.
“Karma at its finest,” remarked a Redditor. “How are people this careless? It’s one of the most basic principles of physics,” exclaimed another. “He thought he was gonna be slick and cut you guys off. Occasionally there is instant karma. Nice to watch,” laughed a third.
According to Connecticut Law, Driving with Unsecured Loads Is Illegal
Karma comments and criticisms aside, what the truck driver did was illegal under Connecticut law. Drivers are not allowed to go on a highway with any load unless it’s securely fastened; otherwise, it can become a dangerous and possibly fatal hazard. The Department of Transportation has even reminded people of June 9’s National Secure Your Load Day to discourage anyone from doing what the man with the fridge did.
Besides the truck driver, some Redditors also accused whoever was driving the white van in front of Evilelfqueen of also being a potential risk on the road. The reason was that they stopped in the middle of the intersection when the fridge fell off and moved slowly enough to cause traffic hold-ups and other issues for the drivers behind them.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the mishap, but it was also the least detrimental outcome that the fridge fell before the truck was on the high-speed highway.
