While everyone is talking about The Last of Us Part 2 and shelling out their coins at Spider-man pre-orders, I want to talk about Control.ย The moment the trailer was playing out, I was intrigued.
Almost everyone was aware of the most of the games PlayStation was going to present at their conference. For the most part, nothing was a surprise. We already knew they were going to showcase more footage about the post-apocalyptic world Ellie lives in. Death Stranding that was previously announced that it was going to be announced, albeit the trailer did raise us more questions. There were leaks that a trailer for the remake of Resident Evil 2 was to be expected at the conference.
However, no one knew who and where that mysterious woman was.
“The Oldest House…” narrated the character.
“What, why, where?” I questioned myself.
I was hooked. What sequel, what reboot was this? With the numerous amounts of reboots and sequels that are being announced, you can’t help but wonder if the trailer you are watching is a continuation of a game you have already played. This time it was different. A new IP was unraveling before us. An IP which was not leaked nor teased beforehand. The conference was a bit predictable, and this one shook up things a bit.
Here we see a woman traveling a dimension which resembles the world of the movie, Inception. She grabs her gun, and we see the weapon slightly shapeshift as the woman reveals to us that there are layers to the world she is about to enter. We see dead bodies floating around in what looks like a destroyed office. The environment deconstructs itself into multiple cubes to place our main character into a different scenario. We are witness to a surreal and unpredictable world.
“Hmm this looks too similar to Quantum Break,” you may tell yourself. It does.

Following the trailer, 505games has posted a little more about the world we are yet to experience. Our unnamed protagonist goes by the name of Jesse Faden and is the new director of this secretive agency located in New York. They promise us side quests and “secrets” which most likely will be represented as collectibles. Probably something along the lines of audio files or archives, alas The Evil Within, that will tell us more about this universe. Of course, we will have to wait and see what the game actually offers us when it comes out.
It was certainly refreshing to see something not previously teased.
Control is slated to release sometime in 2019. It is also expected to come out for PlayStation 4,
