Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris recently announced her official endorsement of Los Angeles, California, Mayor Karen Bass for the upcoming race. This decision has divided California voters, as many Los Angeles residents do not think it is a good move for the city.
According to reports, Harris praised Bass’ actions to reduce homelessness and crime in the city, saying that Bass refused to “back down when the federal government came after our neighbors.”
Both Bass and Harris have been controversial figures among Democratic voters. Bass has been criticized for multiple issues by locals, especially regarding how the city handled the Palisades Fire in 2025. Harris, on the other hand, lost the presidential election in 2024 and is seen as too “pro-establishment” by many Democratic voters.
Los Angeles Residents React to Kamala Harris Supporting Karen Bass
Harris’ endorsement was not viewed very positively by voters across multiple social media posts. “I’m left-leaning, but I’m so tired of lukewarm centrist Dems. I wish politicians knew when to quit. They should both retire and stay out of politics. Hillary, Harris, Bass, Biden, and Ginsberg all overstayed their welcome, and we’re suffering for their hubris,” one user said.
Folks seemed mostly tired of seeing “pro-establishment” Democrats supporting each other. One user wrote, “Establishment Democrat endorses establishment Democrat. I’ll be curious to see if this actually helps Bass or hurts her. I think a lot of left-leaning voters are actively sick of establishment Democrats.” Someone else added, “Once we get rid of establishment Democrats, we will be able to make progress.”
Others said, “The inability to read the room is wild,” meaning they did not think voters would actually support either politician. Some even called Harris’ support “the proverbial kiss of death. All that’s missing is Hillary’s endorsement for a nice tombstone finish.”
As the Los Angeles, California, mayoral campaign begins to heat up, it is fairly common to see criticism of candidates on social media. Last month, for example, Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt was criticized for an ad in which he claimed to live in a trailer and bashed other candidates for living in mansions.
