Since 2011, Twitter users would always flock to one account following every notable gaming event or occurrence. No, it wasn’t a user that had the biggest scoops or hottest news, it was a parody account known as Fake Kaz Hirai. The account would dole out the best jokes about the gaming industry and its cliche, all the while having fans picture Sony Chairman Kaz Hirai was behind it.

Like all good things, it must come to an end though, as the account revealed it would be retiring earlier this year. And while we’ve known that the user behind Fake Kaz Hirai, there was no guarantee his identity would be revealed, until now. Meet Mark Doherty.

In an official interview with Polygon, Doherty revealed everything regarding his journey as the fake Sony Chairman, from why he started it, to who knew about it, and why he stopped.

The most interesting part of the interview is Doherty’s comments that Sony and Kaz Hirai seemed to enjoy the account.

“They let it happen and promote it a little bit. Like when Kaz had my tweets on stage behind him — which was kind of bizarre,” Doherty said. “They said he hasn’t read any tweets, but he was told it was funny in a good way. So he decided not to get it shut down.”
