A couple in Austin, Texas, went out for their morning run when, suddenly, they stumbled upon a man who had fallen into a hole. After firefighters responded to the scene and managed to get him out, it turned out that the man was a comedian, who then gave his side of the story.
Nat and Caleb shared this random, albeit hilarious, incident on their TikTok. They are a married couple who own a boat rental in Austin, but have not posted much on their couple account. Despite this, their clip went viral, garnering more than 6.3 million views, 1.1 million likes, and 2,600 comments.
The clip starts with the Texas couple filming themselves jogging. Then, it cuts to an incoming fire truck, and Nat records Pat, the comedian who fell into the hole.
“We’re rescuing our new friend Pat; he’s in this hole,” Nat said. Pat answered with, “Sup, hey, how y’all doin’?“
Firefighters To The Rescue, Comedian Explains
A first responder then approached Pat and asked him if he was okay. Being a comedian, Pat answered, “I’m fine. I’m just in a hole.” Nat and Pat found it hilarious, laughing at the situation.
With the help of 11 firefighters, Pat was eventually rescued from the hole he fell into. One of the Texas firefighters then grabbed a particle board that was covering the hole. He shook his head in disapproval, potentially thinking about the dangers such an item represents for walkers such as comedian Pat.
Pat, meanwhile, followed up this clip with a storytime of his own. Just like Nat and Caleb, Pat was going for his own morning run when he decided to explore the area, taking pictures of old buildings. Suddenly, he said he observed a pile of dirt with the particle board on top. Like a moth to a flame, he decided to step on it, and the rest is history.
Internet Loses It With Man In Hole
After millions of views, the video sparked multiple responses.
Thanks to Pat being a comedian, most viewers decided to joke around in the comments. One user asked, “Does this mean six more weeks of winter or?” Another one quipped, “If you haven’t heard of Pat yet, it’s because he does underground comedy.”
Others were just confused by the whole situation, with one asking, “Were the sirens necessary?” Finally, some believed Pat had reasons to seek legal action, with one viewer commenting, “Couldn’t he sue the city?“
The clip’s virality can easily be explained by its randomness and lightheartedness. With his comedy chops, the Texas man in the hole definitely made the best out of the situation, with many viewers deciding to join in on the joke, translating into more engagement.
It seems that Pat has new material for his next comedy show.
