A Texas husband and wife had the worst unboxing experience ever when they opened a new TV from Best Buy, only to discover it was thoroughly punctured with holes. Reddit user Hollowespada, the husband, couldn’t believe he’d been sold a product in this condition, but the alleged response from the Geek Squad was an even bigger shocker.
“Went back to Best Buy and the Geek Squad member refused my return and told me to get a hold of the manufacturer,” Hollowespada recalled. He added that he’s a Best Buy Total member and bought the TV the night before picking it up from the store, all the more reason to be upset over being refused a return.
The reason this Geek Squad member allegedly refused to have the broken TV replaced was that the TV was “too damaged.” OP said he “honestly was baffled at his response.” He added that he’s never had an issue with Best Buy up until this point, which is why he has a Best Buy Total membership. Fortunately, another Best Buy store 30 minutes away helped the couple with their issue, though this whole ordeal was an experience neither of them would forget.
Reddit Condemns the Texas Best Buy for Allegedly Indirectly Accusing the Couple of Scamming
“As a manager we were always told that less than 1% of people are trying to steal from you. Don’t treat the 99% like they are the thieves. Seems that’s lost on retailers now,” remarked a commenter, sympathizing with the couple’s situation. “Damaged? More like destroyed….” remarked another in disbelief.
“That’s not shipping damage. That’s been hit hard with a hammer or blunt object several times over, and was then placed back in and the box resealed,” pointed out a third user. Hollowespada responded to verify that the box was in pristine condition. “Immediately thought it was intentional,” he wrote.
A fourth person pointed out how, if the Geek Squad member was indirectly accusing the couple of trying to scam the Best Buy by damaging the TV, the logic doesn’t exactly add up. “I don’t even understand what the thievery here would be,” remarked the commenter. “Buying a TV, using it for target practice, then getting your money back for a net benefit of nothing?”
Paying $200 a year as a loyal customer for Best Buy only to be allegedly turned away after receiving a damaged product probably didn’t sit too well with the couple. As to why the husband shared this incident on Reddit, he explained he’s “honestly doing this to get their attention.”
Apparently, the other Texas Best Buy he visited told him he was the third person to return the same model TV with similar damages. In other words, someone somewhere in a warehouse is violently going to town on LG TVs; hopefully, this couple’s account will help spread awareness for catching the perpetrator.
