A woman living in Chicago, Illinois, posted a video to TikTok that has since gone viral about how her neighbor accused her of smoking marijuana in their apartment complex, going so far as even to call the police.
The video gained significant traction, with users leaving comments in the replies and sharing their opinions on the situation. Some users even left comments that also point to the racist undertones of what happened.
The viral video features a woman sitting in her car as she details the situation from her point of view. She explains that a neighbor of hers had allegedly smelled marijuana throughout the complex and targeted her specifically as the cause, resulting in the police being called.
In the state of Florida, only those with a qualifying condition can apply for a Medical Marijuana Use Registry card. However, even then, participants are only able to consume the product on private property with the owner’s permission.
The police arrived at the property while the owner was at the grocery store, resulting in a doorbell camera conversation with the officers. After deliberations, she reportedly gave them permission to search her home and try to find the marijuana, to which they allegedly declined.
Users took to the comments to share their opinions on what the next steps should be, with one person writing, “File a complaint immediate.”
Reactions to a Woman Having Police Called to Her Home For Marijuana Smoke
Towards the video’s end, the woman recording accuses those living around her of being racist, saying, “I said, I’m tired of living around all these racist [expletive] white people.” In response to this, one user wrote, “I’m white and you are absolutely correct. They are being racist.”
The video is going viral because of the implication that the woman had been smoking marijuana, despite not even being home. Even after allowing the police to search her property and verify the claim.
According to a more recent video posted to the woman’s page, it was discovered that the smell reportedly came from a resident who had been using CBD in their car. This is a product that can be purchased anywhere from a local smoke shop to your average gas station. In Florida, CBD is not illegal as long as it contains less than .03% THC.
As the video continues to go viral online, it is unclear if an apology has been issued by either the neighbor or the police.
