A woman in Louisiana who works as a Child Protective Services (CPS) worker had many netizens agreeing with her after she shared a video on TikTok arguing that people “need to stop having kids,” especially when they are not prepared to take care of them. The video has racked up over 100,000 views and appears to be gaining attention across other social media platforms.

In the clip, the woman explained that one of the saddest things she observed while working in CPS is how often children are removed from their homes due to neglect or substance abuse. She recalled cases involving newborns being taken into care shortly after birth because their parents were on drugs, as well as older children who had moved through multiple foster homes after being abandoned or rejected by their families.

According to her, many of the children she encountered were left dealing with the long-term effects of instability, often spending months or even years in the system before any resolution. She said that once a child is taken into care, the process of reunification is rarely quick, and in many cases, the emotional impact on the child is already significant.

“That’s a Lifetime Commitment”

The woman also spoke about the parents she encountered, saying that they were “irresponsible,” “careless,” and seemed to be living “in their own world doing their own thing.” While she acknowledged that people can face personal struggles, she stressed that the consequences often fall on the children.

“Having kids is a long-term responsibility, it’s not a walk in the park,” she said in the video. “I don’t care how cute they try to make it in movies… It’s not this cute little ‘oh I got a little mini me,’ that’s not what it is. That’s a lifetime commitment. You have to be responsible for a whole other human being and you just simply not even being ready for a child can [ruin] that child’s entire life.”

The woman also suggested that people should take parenting classes to better understand their responsibilities.

What People Are Saying About the Louisiana CPS Worker’s Comments

In the comments, many netizens were in agreement. “As a public school teacher, I completely agree. We have a huge parenting crisis,” one person wrote. Another said, “It’s wild to me how many people casually have kids every year. I understand accidental pregnancies happen even with precautions, but after some point it’s not an accident.”

Someone else commented, “It’s ok to have kids. Stop having kids that you can’t take care of or that you don’t want!” A fourth added, “Everyone thinks they have the resources to do it ‘better’ but resources are multifaceted and we can’t do it all.”

Some also expressed sympathy for the children going through the situation the CPS worker described, with one writing, “It’s so sad – kids deserve so much better,” while another chimed in, “Them babies didn’t ask to be here and it breaks my heart 😭.”

At the same time, there were a few who questioned whether her conclusion was too broad. “So we all should stop having kids because others are unfit? 😭,” one viewer asked. Another pushed back on her message, saying, “That’s not the solution. Invest more on helping parents bond with their children.”

According to the CDC, child abuse and neglect remain widespread in the United States, with nearly 2,000 child deaths reported in 2021.
