Colorado Woman Freaks Out After Owing $17,000 in Taxes Out of Nowhere Despite Being Broke: ‘The Government Has Ruined My Day’

So, either way…

Death and taxes are inescapable, though for many people, the latter is getting scarier by the day with how it seems to keep rising. For one woman in Colorado, her taxes came as a shock because they amounted to $17,000, and the kicker was that the woman was allegedly broke. Paying her taxes would reportedly put her in the negative, and the realization has led to a parking lot meltdown.

TikTok user Brynnley Taylur from Fort Collins, Colorado, aka btaylurr, is the unfortunate American in question, and despite working hard to save up for a house and get approved. Earlier last week, however, she claims “the government has ruined my day,” after she filed her taxes, which allegedly came up to $17,000. The amount has left Taylur not only puzzled but also hysterical.

“I don’t own a house, I don’t own a car… I don’t own anything crazy,” explains Taylur. “How does one owe so much in taxes when they got no money!” she added in her rant, implying she was broke. Some people tried to guess how Taylur’s taxes for this year went so high. Some estimates even implied that the Colorado woman made close to $90,000 this year and paid nothing.

However, Taylur responded with, “I made $12 an hour as a manager last year and my paychecks were still $0.” Taylur, for the record, works at a restaurant, and apparently her earnings include tips. According to some of her videos, she also made around $400 to $800 in some nights at work thanks to tips, which apparently could explain the $17,000 tax for this year.

She was Able to Bring Her Taxes Down

Thankfully, Taylur’s situation improved, which was something she mentioned in a follow-up just yesterday. The $17,000 seemed legitimate and apparently not a mistake. Taylur merely found several ways to write off her huge tax for the year by leveraging several business expenses related to her, such as a start-up trucking company, her TikTok account, and even her boyfriend’s company.

Amazingly enough, Taylur was able to whittle down the tax from $17,000 to just $4,000. Still, Taylur’s initial struggle with the five-digit tax that would’ve put her in debt has resonated with many people in the comment section. Others apparently had a similar problem. “I owed 14,000 last year in Denver. i have no idea what happened there either,” claimed one server in the comment section.

Meanwhile, for people on X, Taylur’s rant video on how much she owes the government despite having no property (according to her) became an online spot for discussion, particularly about government dissatisfaction. One commenter even accused the IRS, “Taxes are theft!!!! Employees in the IRS/gov are not paying their taxes and getting a pass!!!!!”
