Oregon Hair Salon Cancelled by Christians After Bloody Depiction of Jesus for Easter: ‘This is an Abomination’

Dye dye indeed

It’s not often hair salons offend certain groups of people, which was why it was probably quite a setback for Dye Dye My Darling Hair Salon in Oregon after earning Christian ire. That’s because the hair salon in question apparently created an effigy depicting a mangled and bloodied Jesus Christ and displayed it in their shop for everyone outside to see. Needless to say, this Easter stunt made the salon go viral for the wrong reason.

A Portland hair salon, Dye Dye My Darling, is receiving massive backlash after choosing to put up a beaten and bloodied effigy of Jesus as a way to counter Christians celebrating Easter, and is refusing to take it down.

Dye Dye My Darling Hair Salon, located in Portland, Oregon, specifically displayed the gruesome effigy of Jesus back on March 30 and kept it in their shop until April. In the video, you can see Jesus with a torn scalp, blood dripping from his crown of thorns, and facial orifices, all the way down to his robe. The hair salon also included some flyers forming the words “He is Risen,” above some kiddie Easter bunny props, in heavy contrast with the rather disturbing depiction of Christ.

The person in the video couldn’t help but chastise the salon, summing up his reaction with, “This is an abomination!” Meanwhile, some conservative X accounts have taken note of the display and heavily criticized the hair salon for “refusing to take it down.” Right Angle News Network then went on to question “why they find it appropriate to mock Christians,” as according to the conservative X user, the display was meant to “counter Christians celebrating Easter.”

Christians Weren’t Happy

Dye Dye My Darling Salon’s TikTok, however, has recently posted that “The temporary window display that was up from March 30th-April 10th has been removed.” The shop hasn’t specified which display exactly, but due to the recency of the backlash about their Easter Jesus display, it would be fair for people to assume that they were referring to that.

Despite being supposedly taken down, it appears the damage has been done, and many Christian commenters were arguing about the display online. One commenter even accused the whole of Portland as some kind of evil hotspot, “I live in Portland. They’re into satanic [child abuse] and #gangstalking anybody that doesn’t fall in line with their communist, satanic agenda.”

Another commenter questions why it was specifically Christ who was selected for such a depiction, “Why is it we don’t see depictions like this of Muhammad or Buddha or Krishna, Vishnu or any other divine figure? It’s predominantly Jesus Christ. If not, only Jesus Christ who is mocked like this.” Though he likely hadn’t considered that the most recent occasion in April was about Christ.

Other commenters, however, thought the person complaining about the salon’s display in the video needed to lighten up. One person on Facebook thought that the salon’s display was a good argument against turning Easter into an egg hunt, “Might be a controversial take but this is perfectly reasonable given the event. we have spun it out to no more than eggs, it should serve us well to remember the true spirit of the occasion.”
