A heated road rage incident recently unfolded in Ocean Beach, California, where two drivers were caught on camera in a furious argument. What sparked the dispute is unclear, but what caught viewers’ attention was the audiobook playing in the background, which contrasted sharply with the argument unfolding on camera. The footage has begun circulating online.
Filmed from inside a vehicle, the clip captures a man in a dark gray T-shirt standing in the road and yelling expletives, while another man in a white car shouts back. However, what makes the clip unique is the contrast between the argument and what the witness is listening to inside his vehicle. The man filming is listening to an audiobook that ironically mirrors the argument unfolding in front of him.
As the men yell angry expletives and racial slurs at each other, the man watching on is listening to the audiobook Golden Son by Pierce Brown, which is the second book in the Red Rising series. In the background, you can hear the audiobook, which adds levity to the chaos in front of him: “I turn to face her, so much lingers unsaid between us, so many questions unanswered. Unforgiven. So much, and perhaps, still, the faint flicker of something more.” As the man in a gray T-shirt gets back into his vehicle, the footage comes to a close.
The Internet Can’t Get Over This Road Rage Clip
As the video continues to snowball online, it has sparked multiple reactions, with most people stunned by the irony of the coincidental timing of the witness’s audiobook. On Reddit, one user chimed in with, “The audiobook is sending me 🤣” while another added, “Literally like edited for the scene“. A third chipped in with, “Juxtaposition is absolute art.” and another agreed, declaring, “This is art“.
Others, meanwhile, couldn’t believe the racial slurs one of the men was yelling, with one commenter writing, “He used the n-word….on a white guy…🤷🏻♀️” A sixth added, “It’s crazy when a traditionally racist slur against black people becomes so insulting (to white people?) that white people use it on white people. To be honest, I think it’s crazy that I just typed that sentence.”
According to available information, no one was injured during the incident, but online viewers have been quick to highlight the ironic timing of the witness’s audiobook playing in the background.
