Any news regarding Splinter Cell Remake might have slipped past the shadows, considering Ubisoft kept radio silence for the last five years. As you might remember, the project was officially announced way back in 2021, complete with a nostalgia-filled teaser trailer. But instead of getting constant updates, Ubisoft Toronto, the studio behind it, was hit with layoffs and had to abandon several projects, including high-profile ones. Still, not everything is lost, as a hiring post suggests the remake is still moving forward behind the scenes.

Recently, Ubisoft Toronto posted a job listing for a Build and Release Specialist explicitly tied to the Splinter Cell Remake. The role seems to focus on managing and distributing game builds internally. While this doesn’t mean a release build will be coming any time soon, it might indicate that the studio is progressing with QA testing or internal playtests.

Job Description: As a Build and Release Specialist at Ubisoft Toronto, you will help design, improve, and maintain the build and deployment pipelines that support our game development teams.

Nevertheless, as mentioned above, that signal arrives at a complicated moment for the studio. Early this year, 40 Ubisoft Toronto developers were laid off as part of broader ‘cost-cutting measures’ across the company. It caused multiple projects to be canceled, including the long-in-development and long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.

Despite the cuts, in a statement shared with Kotaku, Ubisoft confirmed the Splinter Cell Remake remains in active development.

To muddy the water further, insider Tom Henderson recently claimed that the remake has likely been delayed internally. He said while the game was once targeting a June 2026 release window, it may now be pushed to next year. He also noted that after Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft might be planning to release a new open-world FPS Ghost Recon. Meanwhile, a Rayman Legends remake is reportedly ‘going well.’

Sam Fisher hasn’t gone on a solo mission again since Blacklist. So far, the character only appears in spin-offs like the Deathwatch animated series, which premiered on Netflix in October 2025. As well as a crossover appearance in Ghost Recon Wildlands and Rainbow Six Siege. For now, though, at least we can be sure that Splinter Cell Remake remains alive. Just moving quietly, much like its iconic protagonist.
