In Florida, you’ve got to be careful when fishing — you never know what else might be eyeing your line. That proved true recently when a pair of Florida fishermen reeled in a big catch, only to be stunned as an alligator rose from the water and snatched the fish right before their eyes. The incident was caught on camera and is making the rounds online.

Fishing in Florida is a little different

The video shows a father and son out fishing by a river on a sunny day in Florida. As the clip begins, the father has hooked an impressive fish and is in the process of reeling it in. The son can be heard excitedly exclaiming, “Dad, that is a 10. You just caught a [expletive] 10! Dad, what the [expletive]! What the —” though his overjoyed celebrations are suddenly cut short when they notice a sizable alligator rapidly swimming towards them and the fish on the end of their line.

“Oh, [expletive]!” the son yells in shock as they both reel backward and fall to the ground in panic. In the commotion, the moment the alligator takes the fish is not clearly shown, but the camera then refocuses on the reptile, which appears to have the fish in its jaws. The fish flaps briefly in the alligator’s mouth as it turns and swims back into the depths of the lake with its stolen meal, bringing the clip to an end.

Online Viewers React to the Viral Florida Fishing Encounter

The footage has sparked many reactions online, with many viewers expressing shock at what unfolded. On Reddit, one user wrote, “The way it looked at them while eating it like “Ha! [Expletive] you!”” while another remarked simply with, “That was a nice fish.” Another local chimed in with, “That’s not even a big one (gator, I mean). Pretty big fish though. He must have been pretty hungry. I used to have gators near my backyard… they’re stationary 98% of the time.” while another added to this, penning, “Yeah, they are, but if you lived with them so close I’m sure you are also well aware that if they decide it’s time for some of that 2% and it’s aimed at you, that you are in serious danger as they can be EXPLOSIVELY fast in short bursts. Others, meanwhile, saw the funny side of the incident and couldn’t help chipping in with amusing alligator puns like, “[Expletive] didnt know alligators ordered take out. [sic]” and “Scared him right out of his croc“. Another commenter summed up the video in a lighthearted way expressing, “What an asshole lol . That was probably a PB“. Elsewhere, over on Instagram, one netizen joked, “He said Thank You I’ve been trying all day 😂”

Thankfully, no one was reportedly injured during the incident, which serves as a reminder of the unexpected dangers that can come with fishing in Florida waters.
