A daycare teacher from Ohio is now facing swift professional fallout after a viral social media video appeared to show her expressing disappointment that Donald Trump survived a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. She has since expressed disappointment on the matter, though apparently maintains her stance.
Corrine Baum, who had been working at a Cincinnati-area childcare center operated by BrightPath Kids in Ohio, was terminated shortly after the video began circulating online. In the clip, Baum referenced online speculation about a potential attack and suggested the outcome was not what some had anticipated. The remarks quickly drew backlash, with critics arguing they crossed a line into rhetoric that could be interpreted as endorsing violence.
BrightPath confirmed her dismissal in a statement, saying the comments were “deeply inconsistent with our values” and emphasizing that the organization “does not tolerate and explicitly condemns any calls for violence.” The company, which operates multiple early learning centers across the region, acted within a day of becoming aware of the post.
The controversy comes in the wake of a chaotic scene Saturday night when authorities say 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen attempted to assassinate President Trump at the Washington Hilton, where the high-profile dinner was being held. According to investigators, Allen was armed with multiple weapons and exchanged gunfire with law enforcement after attempting to breach a security checkpoint.
People Online Continue to Debate About the Fire Teacher
Despite getting fired from the daycare she teaches at, Baum continues to spark numerous threads and comments online. Baum’s TikTok account has been deactivated following the backlash; however, people still gave their two cents about her actions. “That’s likely a career-ender for her. Teachers are held to a higher moral standard, and promoting violence is a total breach of professional conduct. People should think before they act. Hard to teach kids ethics when you’re failing them yourself. Lol,” claims a commenter.
Others, however, think getting her fired and the widespread online backlash were overblown. One commenter argued, “You seriously got her fired for that video? You’re seriously an awful human. That was one of the tamest out there and you’re off harassing her job.” Some saw the termination for the Ohio teacher coming, “What a surprise lol. So obvious that was gonna happen the second that video went viral.”
In any case, it appears it wasn’t only Baum who gave out statements regarding the recent assassination attempt on President Trump. Even comedians and celebrities had their own take on the matter. Jimmy Kimmel even offended Melania Trump after he called her an “expectant widow” while another celebrity joked about the assassination attempt being staged.
