A video has been circulating on the internet of Seattle, Washington, Mayor Katie Wilson abruptly ending an interview with reporter Chris Daniels of KOMO News after being asked questions concerning surveillance.
The interview took place shortly after a shooting outside an event she attended earlier that week. The reaction has prompted many commenters to share their opinions on the situation, with many shocked that she would do that.
The above video features the moment that Mayor Katie Wilson was pulled away by a staff member just before being asked a question about gun violence. The question concerned surveillance and whether the event had raised any concerns about the city’s safety. However, while she was answering, she was pulled away.
Reporter Chris Daniels can be heard saying, “She’s about to answer the question, though. Okay. I mean, it looks worse when you jump in like that. I also have to ask the questions that people want to have answers.”
The staffer mentioned being able to reschedule the conversation or even speak to another person about the question. According to the staffer himself, he removed Wilson because, “We are just trying to keep it in the scope and with respect to the event itself.”
Reactions to Mayor Katie Wilson Not Answering Reporter’s Question
The comments underneath the video were filled with people who held strong opinions, many of whom pointed to Wilson’s background as their reasoning. One person even wrote, “The theater kids are running the show. Accountability isn’t their thing.” Another wrote, “And that boys and girls is why you shouldn’t elect theatre kids to office in a nutshell.“
Other comments focused on the comment Daniels made after the interview ended, with one person writing, “Wow. This reporter is correct. It definitely looks worse when a representative can’t answer a question and their staff pull them from an interview. This mayor is a child and way out over her skis.”
It is currently unclear if there are any plans to change the current state of surveillance in Seattle, Washington. It also remains unclear whether the interview will be rescheduled or addressed further.
