Indiana Dad Goes Viral for Threatening 13-Year-Old Girl With Felony Charge for the Sake of Parenting: ‘They Have to Suffer the Consequences’

Things just got complicated

Parenting is no doubt hard, and doubly so when you also have to deal with other parents’ children. In the case of one frustrated father from Indiana, he had to teach someone else’s daughter a lesson for stealing his daughter’s phone, which set him back a $1,000. So the dad in question gave the girl’s parents an ultimatum: pay $1,000 for the replacement or face a felony charge, and his explanation has since gone viral.

The incident occurred at a school in Indiana. The dad goes by BeardiestBear on TikTok, and her daughter’s phone was stolen back in March, though her daughter had already suspected another girl as the culprit. Fast forward to May, and the school managed to track down the thief; it was the same girl that the dad’s daughter had suspected.

“So I have to go down to my daughter’s school today to file a police report,” claims the Indiana dad. “I decided to press charges against a 13-year-old, yeah, I don’t give a [expletive]… However, I am willing to be lenient and let this slide on the off chance that the parents are willing to pay $1,000,” he added. Apparently, he had to buy his daughter a $1,000 replacement phone and now wants the other girl’s family to foot the bill, since she stole the first phone.

The Indiana dad went on to explain that “In the state of Indiana, if you steal something valued at $750 or more, it’s considered a felony.” He added that his conditions for the parents are something that he feels is “a pretty lenient and pretty good out for them and their daughter… they have to suffer the consequences because of what they daughter did. It is what it is.”

These Conditions Have Sparked a Debate

In a video update, the TikTok user says neither the case nor the $1,000 compensation might proceed at all since the parents returned the phone. Now the case is up to the prosecutor, but people in the comments section are debating how to handle the alleged juvenile theft. One commenter on X thought it was a good deal, “This is completely reasonable. Anyone saying otherwise is either clueless or just plain stupid.”

However, went deeper in their reasoning, with another commenter saying, “If the thiefs family couldn’t or didn’t want to afford a $1000 phone for their child. Forcing them to pay $1000 will probably feel a harsher punishment.” Meanwhile, some have praised the dad’s parenting decisions, “This is truly top-tier, high-quality parenting. He taught his daughter how to use legal means to protect herself, while also giving the misguided girl a chance to ‘reshape her values.'”
