For many high school students, prom night is the most important day of their lives, perhaps even more so than graduation. Hence, one Texas teenager went all out with his mother’s help, bringing in not just one but three supercars and a private jet for his prom night send-off. The result? Well, forget about making your prom night memorable, because nothing can top this wildly viral attempt.
Instagram user erica_badgal from Houston, Texas, is the mother of the high school student in question. On May 3, the mom posted a video of her sending her son, RJ, off to his high school prom night, featuring a full-fledged production of him posing in front of a private jet and three supercars: a Mercedes-Benz, a McLaren, and a Lamborghini. But that’s not all, the prom attendee was also wearing luxury watches, jewelry, and a Louis-Vuitton suit.
erica_badgal’s video has since gone viral with millions of views spread across multiple social media platforms. In one of the “trailers” for his son’s prom-night send-off, the Texas mom claims, “Too many people depend on his leadership skills,” as the reason she chose to send him off that way. On the way to prom, RJ even carried a Louis-Vuitton bag full of money, supposedly.
RJ, however, has plenty of competition, as this prom night trend appears to be quite popular among his generation. Other high school students’ parents even created a fake hotel entrance and a catwalk in front of their home to send off their kids to prom. One can only imagine what their future life milestones will look like with this kind of flexibility early on.
People online are in shock
While making prom night special has been a trend for decades, many people are raising the bar with supercars, private jets, and production crews, sparking debate. The most common reaction outside the main Instagram posts came from X, where many users questioned why the students or their parents had to “flex” this much for prom.
“His family went into generational debt for their kid to fake flex for one afternoon btw,” jokes one X user. Another echoed the sentiment, bitterly ranting, “All that for 2 hours of [expletive] dancing.” Plenty more have also questioned the lifestyle of the students and their parents, with some even assuming that they overspent for a send-off, “Bro used the entire college tuition budget for a 4-hour dance. I hope the slow dance with a girl in a sequined dress was worth the jet fuel.”
With that said, making prom night memorable is what matters for the teenagers, hence the high-production-value videos and luxury rentals. Teenagers like RJ and his mom have also earned praise and their own fans online. “I open the comments and see our ppl putting this man down ya not right,” rants one X user while another argues, “His family could be a bunch of doctors and lawyers from the south stop projecting my boy.”
