‘Insane Person Behavior’: Illinois Worker Says Boss Changed Meeting by 3 Minutes, Then Called Him Late

Was the one minute worth calling over?

Work meetings can sometimes feel like a “necessary evil” in many people’s careers, but for one Illinois employee, even the scheduling was pushing his patience to its limit. Going by RotaryPhoneDialer on Reddit, the worker shared a picture of his work meeting time, which was usually at 9:35 am. However, he says the meeting was rescheduled to 9:32 am. Thinking it was at the usual time, Rotary says it hadn’t been a minute after 9:33 that his boss called him, asking why he was late.

My regularly scheduled Monday morning meeting at 9:35 got rescheduled to 9:32. My boss called at 9:33 asking why I was late.

Rotary’s post struck a nerve with those in r/mildlyinfuriating; within less than 24 hours, over 40k people had tuned into his story, and the blood was boiling. “Sounds like a micromanaging boss. That would piss me off so much,” growled a user.

“Start applying elsewhere, your boss either hates you, has a screw loose, or both,” suggested another. “This is insane person behavior,” exclaimed a third. “Who scheduled a meeting at 9:35? Just schedule it at 9:30 like a normal person. Should be the first clue this boss is crazy,” remarked a fourth.

OP Claims They Weren’t the Only One Late to This Rescheduled Meeting Time

OP added some context to his post, first clarifying that the schedule to have meetings at 9:32 am was indeed real. “I glanced at my calendar and saw the meeting a smidge past 930 so I assumed it was the same time,” he said, which would explain why he didn’t realize there had been a 3-minute change. “This was a team meeting so I was not the only one late,” he wrote in conclusion.

Many people questioned why this rescheduling was even necessary. And more importantly, why did Rotary’s boss call him for being just a minute late? “Is this normal behavior for your boss?” a Redditor questioned.

All that being said, one notable factor hadn’t been explained by OP: When did this rescheduling take place? The day of the meeting, or was it a week prior? Based on his and his co-workers’ alleged tardiness to the meeting, it might not have been too long. Yet it still is an important missing piece of the puzzle in this bizarre 3-minute schedule change.

Whatever the case, one thing is certainly true about this employee’s boss: he doesn’t like it when people are late, even by a minute.
