A California human rights activist decided she wasn’t going to stay silent when protestors gathered outside an abortion clinic. Her entire TikTok is dedicated to defending those who utilize these clinics for a variety of reasons. It turns out, the men and women attending the protest were feeling a bit intimidated by her presence.
Mel (@melverus_) shared a TikTok video captioned, “Making beta males miserable by openly insulting them.” In her video, she pans around a clinic protest somewhere in California on a random Saturday. Tons of people are gathered outside, praying and wearing “We love life” t-shirts. But Mel notices one particular trend: Most of the people protesting the abortion clinic are, indeed, men.
Mel pans her phone’s camera toward a man holding a guitar so he can provide tunes for the protest. He says to her camera, “I don’t know why you’re interested in it.” She explains to him, “I’m more interested in why all these beta males are fighting against women’s rights today when it’s a beautiful Saturday and they could be doing anything else.” She continues, “I’m just studying you” as more men gather behind her. Then, she calls them “weak” and continues berating them for coming out to the protest.
As she continues to walk around the protest, she shows large groups of men huddled together, some praying. There are women but that’s pretty sparse compared to the men who decided to come out and protest. She shows more of them and points out that she thinks one of the men is just there “to intimidate” people.
Commenters mostly shared Mel’s frustrations. One woman pointed out, “White men will bring a guitar to anything.” Another commenter shared her beliefs: “If men could get pregnant, abortion pills would be handed out for free.” Some commenters, however, disagreed with Mel’s presence at the protest. One asked, “They are expressing their right to their opinion and beliefs, why do you have a problem with it?” Commenters continue to share their opinions and even argue in the comments about what is right and wrong when it comes to their thoughts on women’s rights issues.
In an update video, Mel says that one particular man followed her around the protest after she showed up. She pans the camera to him and says, “I guess this is the one they assigned to me today,” calling him the “trip sitter.” Mel tells the man following her that, the last time she came to one of these protests, her trip sitter had a weapon with him. She explains, “It seems unnecessary to me.”
When Mel walks away from the man, he follows her. She asks her audience, “Isn’t that cute?” She also discovers that, in one of the groups, there is a woman with her small baby in a stroller. One commenter pointed out, “That mom is truly using her baby as a prop!!”
Comments continue to flow in as most individuals share their discontent with the protest. The conversations had on Mel’s video continue to be divisive but necessary.
