A doctor in Chicago, Illinois, was enjoying Hamilton when he suddenly left the theater mid-show. He had been notified of a patient with a brain bleed, so he quickly rushed to the hospital to perform a life-saving surgery.

The doctor is Zayed Almadidy, who is a Chicago-based neurosurgeon. With over a million followers on TikTok, he often shares his life working at a level 1 trauma center. This latest clip was not the exception, as it garnered close to 1 million views, 116,200 likes, and more than 900 comments.

The Illinois doctor was enjoying Hamilton at the CIBC Theater when he was notified that a patient was suffering from a brain bleed. He had to walk out of the show, missing its ending, and, wearing sweats, walked all the way back to the hospital. He didn’t have his badge with him at the time, but he was able to step inside.

Fully gowned, Dr. Almadidy detailed that he spoke to the patient and his family, and he was ready to perform the surgery right there and then.

Almost three hours later, the surgery was complete.

The doctor answered a common question, which was what he did for fun outside the hospital. He said, “I try to do fun stuff, but my mind never rests. Because even when I was watching Hamilton, I was always thinking in the back of my mind, ‘I’m on call. I gotta be available. I need to be ready.’“

Thankfully, the Illinois neurosurgeon was, in fact, ready and probably saved his patient’s life. He, however, now has some catching up to do.

“If anybody knows the ending of Hamilton, let me know,” he said.

Doctor Applauded, Sweats Pointed Out

The video sparked multiple responses online.

Some viewers admired the doctor’s attitude towards helping others. One said, “I love your way of thinking and attitude. You were meant to save people.” Another one commented, “Oh, it’s just our hero back on his casual missions of saving lives.”

Other users, meanwhile, found it interesting that the doctor was wearing sweats. One viewer wrote, “Hold up, you went to see Hamilton wearing sweats?” The doctor clapped back, saying, “I did. And the cast still performed. Can you believe it?“

While Dr. Almadidy missed almost half of Hamilton, he still believes saving patients is his priority, even if he needs to cut some “fun” from his life. Judging by his words, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
