When a Michigan council meeting took place this week, a woman decided that she was going to speak up about some concerns she had. She had questions about the police in her area working with ICE. However, when things started to get a little heated, the police decided to intervene.

TikToker @debateher shared the video of what happened during a town hall meeting in Taylor, Michigan. A woman got up in front of council members and said, “I’m here to talk about ICE.” She explained that she doesn’t agree with police agreeing to sign a contract and start working with ICE in Michigan. She went on to say, “If you don’t look like me, a white person, you’re in danger. If you’re a person of color, you’re in danger. If you have an accent, you’re in danger.”

The woman goes on to tell council members that ICE is a danger to everybody. She bravely explains that they have “taken citizens” away from their families. The woman tells them that it’s “shameful” that they’re even considering working with ICE officials. They try to tell her that her time is up and the mayor says safety is priority in his city. When she tries to speak again, he angrily states, “Let me finish.” However, he skirts around the subject of ICE and keeps repeating that he only cares about the safety of his residents. She says, “Don’t work with ICE.” All the mayor has to respond to this with is, “That has nothing to do with it.”

At some point, the mayor tires of her questioning. He tells her he’ll talk with her after the meeting. However, she has more to say and keeps going. Council members explain that her time is up and tell her she’s “out of order.” When she refuses to leave the podium, police approach her from all angles. She continues screaming that she wants her question answered as they’re pulling her away. You can hear her yelling at the police off-screen, saying, “Get off my arm!” and telling them not to break her arm.

According to sources, the local resident of Taylor was arrested for the disturbance. The agreement between police and ICE in Taylor was made in 2025. It states that Taylor Police are permitted to check and see if someone they are investigated is wanted by ICE. If they discover that they are, they can report the person to federal authorities as long as they are living in Taylor.

Commenters flooded to the video to share their reactions. Many expressed feeling outraged by what unfolded and showing support to the woman speaking up in the video. One commenter questioned, “How is speaking during a public meeting a disturbance of peace? They don’t want to/won’t give a straight answer.” Another commenter pointed out, “So exercising our rights of Freedom of Speech is disturbing the peace, eh? Seems consistent with the larger administration.” One commenter simply stated, “This is not America anymore.”
