A Tennessee restaurant worker thinks he has a good grasp on why people are struggling financially. In a now-viral video, he says that “not everyone is struggling right now.” He uses his video as a way to talk to his audience about how people are just particularly bad with how they spend their money. According to him, too many people are utilizing DoorDash on a daily basis.

Zak Butler (@zakbutler49) says, “Not everyone is in debt. Not everyone is struggling right now.” He says he thinks the reason for people struggling with money right now is a “financial literacy issue.” So, what does Zak mean by this? He says people have a problem with trying to “manage their expenses and it shows.”

Zak works in the restaurant industry. He said that, every day, they’re getting “100 DoorDash and Uber orders a night.” As Zak asks, “Why are you spending money on DoorDash?” He questions why people are DoorDashing the food when they could simply pick it up themselves, saving themselves a ton of money. According to Zak, people who lay at home and wait for someone to deliver their food are “lazy.” And he adds that people who spend $40 a week on DoorDash are blowing through $160 a month. After a year, he says that adds up to about $1,600 that a person could have saved.

Personally, Zak says he works in the restaurant industry and lives in the city in his own apartment. He says he doesn’t have kids, which he says obviously makes things easier. But his apartment costs a lot in rent every month. Even so, he says he’s “doing fine” because he’s careful with his expenses. He bashes those who spend money and says, “No wonder why you’re [expletive] broke. Not everyone is broke in this economy.”

Commenters immediately flocked to Zak’s video, with many bashing him outright for his opinions on this matter. One commenter pointed out, “$74 hat he has on btw.” Another added, “Two things can be true. Yes, a lot of people are making poor choices with their money. But the economy/cost of living is also insane right now.”

Others agreed with Zak, sharing why they think people struggle in our economy. One commenter agreed with Zak, “Totally!!! Why people buy $7-8 coffee on the daily is mind blowing! Not to mention it’s literal poison.” Another commenter shared, “Going to Hawaii next month and the first comment I get is ‘wow must be nice to have so much money.’ No I just prioritize different things.”
