A local New Jersey dispensary reportedly sent a “wellness check” message to a female customer after she wasn’t seen for a while. Reddit user NMF-Leche uploaded a screenshot of the store’s DM to Maria, whom he claims is his wife. The message was written in the first person, expressing concern about Maria’s absence and pleading for her to reach out to the dispensary to provide “feedback.” Moderators later removed the post, but not before tens of thousands of Redditors tuned in.

While the semi-viral post was removed from r/funny, the photo survived on r/WellTextSucks, where readers can see this dispensary’s so-called wellness check. While NMF-Leche didn’t add any additional context in his posts, many online users felt that this “wellness check” was actually a “customer retention program.”

Online Users Claim this ‘Wellness Check’ Is Actually a Marketing Ploy

“This is an old tactic from Customer Service Gurus,” pointed out a Redditor. On the flip side, some who claimed to have worked for dispensary businesses say this sort of customer checkup isn’t uncommon. “I do home weed delivery. There are 3 people I check up on from time to time. 2 vets and 1 very old dude with cancer,” wrote a commenter. Others say dispensary employees often get close to the clientele, so a personal-sounding message isn’t surprising.

Though plenty of others believe the fact that this New Jersey dispensary is reaching out to this woman says volumes about how much business she might have been bringing to the store. “She is singlehandedly impacting their bottom line,” exclaimed a user. “They miss her money,” agreed another. “How much weed was she buying?” questioned a concerned third. “When the weed dealer has better follow-up care than most doctors’ offices,” joked a fourth.

Fortunately, it would seem the dispensary isn’t hurting for endorsements, as online users on both r/BloomfieldNJ and the store’s Yelp page have positive things to say about the business. Still, the owner likely wouldn’t mind their respected customer, Maria, coming back to do some more shopping, based on the text.
