Minnesota Family Shocked to Find Yard Covered in Sharp Screws After Contractor Visit: ‘This Is Is Just Being Sloppy’

You could say he ‘nailed’ the job

A contractor nailed his remodeling job at a home in Minnesota, but not in the way the homeowner would have liked. Going by MikeandMolly5656 on Reddit, the husband uploaded a photo on r/mildlyinfuriating of an alarming pile of large screws he claimed was “left laying around the yard and house.” Apparently, it took around an hour to find all the screws in the picture, with several more unaccounted for.

Over ten thousand Redditors tuned in to MikeandMolly5656’s post, several of them expressing their own complaints over incompetently messy contractors doing construction and renovation work on their homes. In OP’s case, about the screws, his contractor “just kept dropping them all over anytime he reached in to grab a handful.” Some claimed the worker would likely come back and clean them all up after the job was over, but that wasn’t the issue.

MikeandMolly5656 elaborated on his frustration in the comments, saying that the contractor indeed wasn’t done yet, “but I don’t want my kids stepping on them or a tire popping.” Not to mention, a good number of the screws were found by the garage where the family parks their car. In other words, it’s not about whether the contractor would eventually clean up; it’s about how careless he was in dropping sharp building materials everywhere across the property.

Fortunately, some Redditors did show understanding for OP’s plight. “This is is just being sloppy. I wouldn’t trust someone that takes this little pride in how they leave your home. It’s a house not a commercial site,” remarked a commenter. “You missed some. But, that’s OK. Your lawn mower tires will find them,” jokingly warned another. “That’s like a whole box of screws,” exclaimed a third.

Some Frugal Redditors Couldn’t Help But Cheer Over OP Getting ‘Free Screws’

For some reason, many were delighted over the fact that MikeandMolly5656 now had “free screws” in his yard for the taking. “Screws are expensive for the DIYer and you just got a bunch for free!” cheered a user. Coincidentally, dozens upon dozens acted the same way when a Florida homeowner complained about his neighbor leaving rotting fence pickets in his yard. Regardless of the actual issue, some people seem unable to get over their love of free stuff.
