A homeowner in Ohio is drawing attention to debris from a nearby shooting range that is making its way onto his property. He shared a photo online of numerous clay pigeon shards scattered across his property, washed downstream from the target practice area. Thousands of Reddit users also found the scene to be more than mildly frustrating, and many encouraged him to report the situation.

A shooting range opened up about a mile up the creek from me

Reddit user thatspurdyneat posted the picture to r/mildlyinfuriating and explainied how the shooting range has “a bridge with launchers on both sides, [and] there’s a service road at their boundary and they use it for access.” Simply put, the clay pigeons are being shot down into the creek under the bridge, and the water is carrying all the debris straight into his backyard and property. That said, commenters believe this dilemma warrants a report to the state.

“You can report something like this to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency),” suggests a Redditor, with thousands of others agreeing that this should be reported at a state level. “They’re supposed to take care of messes they make,” chimed in another. “This looks like intentional dumping into the creek if this much carried a mile. Absolutely needs to be reported,” agreed a third.

Clay Pigeons Have Been Connected to Environmental Pollution, a Risk to the Ohio Homeowner’s Property

While one person argues that the shooting range’s skeets are technically biodegradable, Nordic Clays reports that petroleum-based clay pigeons can release harmful chemicals into soil and water, negatively affecting flora and fauna over time. OP has not clarified whether he knows whether the shards on his property are “eco-friendly,” not to mention, a big problem is the nonconsensual littering that the shooting range is doing on his land and in his creek.

One Redditor agreed, pointing out how clay pigeons are considered a source of pollution, and those shot down near water could contaminate the creek, as well as the microplastics from any shotgun shells. Another person concluded with a telling complaint: “The amount of people who think all clay-pigeons are biodegradable and are seemingly ok with messing up this creek is depressing.”
