A California man was enjoying a day out with his friend at a neighborhood café in Los Angeles. He never expected that somebody was taking photos of him that they would later post on social media. Why? Because, apparently, his car wasn’t expensive enough for the area.

Jons (@archive.jons) posted a TikTok video of what happened to him when he was out and about with a friend this past week. As he explains it, he and his friend visited a Los Angeles Community Goods. This café and bodega is located in a Los Angeles neighborhood that is known for housing elite individuals. Many people who live in this area drive expensive cars and live rich lifestyles. But Jons and his friend were just having a nice day out in their Honda Accord.

Jons and his friend parked in front of the Community Goods café, went inside, and got their matchas. They pulled away and continued to have a nice day together. Jons woke up the next day after his outing with his friend. He was scrolling TikTok when, shockingly, he saw a video with a picture of his friend’s Honda Accord. They were both stunned by what they saw posted about them.

The woman who posted the video of their Honda captioned the video, “Someone didn’t get the memo.” She was hinting at the fact that the Honda Accord was a vehicle that only poor people drive. She implied that this area was too fancy for them. People in the comments to her video called her out, saying, “Where’s the joke? We all understood but no one laughed.”

Jons himself commented on her video and told her what she did was unnecessary. He stated, “Sorry, we’re just college students who pay tuition and we have not had the opportunity of economic mobility in comparison to the rest of LA.” He said they literally just wanted to get a nice drink and go about their business. Unfortunately, the woman deleted Jons’ comment when she saw that he called her out for it.

Commenters immediately flocked to Jons’ video with their own take on what this woman said about he and his friend. Many commenters immediately rushed to his side, mentioning things like, “LA sounds emotionally exhausting.” Another commenter pointed out that even those who appear rich may not be what they seem. She stated, “A lot of people are credit card billionaires and are one minimum payment short of losing it all.”

Others applauded Jons’ friend for her choice in a car. One commenter mentioned, “People hate Honda and Toyotas but they will out perform and last longer than any luxury tagged vehicle. Real luxury is durability!!” Another person added, “A car is a luxury, any car.”
