An Arizona man was baffled when he was visited by a developer on his off-grid property. Apparently, the developer is interested in buying his property in the middle of the desert. Why? So they can build a data center on his land. They’ve proven that they’re not about to give up on the fight for his land.
Homer (@homer4400) said he received an interesting visit from a man who wandered onto his property this week. The man was a developer of some type who said they wanted to make an offer to “buy Homer’s land.” When he asked them what they would use the land for, the man told him, “We sell land to the government for these upcoming data centers. Your land is averaging right around $80,000 per acre.” Homer bought five acres for $8,000 several years ago. He told the developer he might be interested in selling an acre to him. However, the man said it couldn’t be “subdivided.”
When Homer told him he wasn’t interested in selling his land, he didn’t like what the developer had to say. He told Homer, “Well, you either sell now, or you sell later,” which sounds a bit threatening. The next day, the man texted him at 5 a.m. and told him that he left a bunch of gifts at the end of Homer’s property.
When Homer went out to the end of his property, he found that they did indeed deliver gifts. Homer texted the man back and told him he didn’t want any gifts but he took the chance to check out what was left behind for him. They left him an Outback restaurant gift card for $250, a $250 Nike gift card, and $400 in cash clipped together. He said the whole thing is “crazy” to him.
In another update, Homer said he did some research on the group who wants to buy his property. He said they live in another country and buy properties that they then sell to the government. Homer tried to block their number but they even texted him from a second number! The whole situation is very weird to him and commenters keep telling Homer to stay safe, as they agree.
Commenters had various reactions on his video, with some warning about how detrimental a data center could be to his area. One commenter mentioned, “The water in your community will never be the same.” Others showed concern for his safety, urging him to “tell them to stop contacting you, it’s harassment.”
Some commenters used this as an opportunity to give Homer some good information on how to protect himself and his land. One commenter shared, “If you put your land under a conservation easement, it PERMANENTLY restricts all future development of the property. No matter who the owner is. Easements are extremely customizable and allow you to restrict whatever you want to.” Others urged, “Set up cameras to record everything and document every single interaction no matter how insignificant. You need to get a civil rights attorney.”
At this point, there is no further information on what Homer is dealing with. However, it is likely that he’ll have more updates to come on the unsettling situation. It’s very clear he wants to keep his land at all costs.
