Arkansas Worker Speaks Out After Struggling to Access Unemployment Benefits: ‘Our Entire System is the Joke’

And what are we supposed to do without jobs or help?

Unemployment is something all of us have gone through, and while some manage to find a new job quickly after a company lets them go, a few citizens don’t have it so easy. Still, there are some states that look to implement programs to help even those without work. However, it seems that even if these programs exist, they aren’t as helpful as one may think. To give you an example, a former employee in Arkansas has shared their long battle with the unemployment benefits program, which has been more of an obstacle than a help for this person.

Our Unemployment System is a Joke

The OP posted their story in the Arkansas subreddit, titled, “Our Unemployment System is a Joke.” In it, the former worker from Arkansas talks about how they have been without a job since March and how they eventually tried to look for benefits through the unemployment program. However, it seems it was a whole ordeal, as receiving help from the government took a long while, and even then, it hasn’t helped much.

According to them, they were trying to use this program for months, to the point that they only managed to get paid for one week. Yet, after that, they are not being audited for that one sole payment. While trying to get out of this debacle, OP has tried to contact those in charge of this program, but has met nothing but people transferring them over the phone, delays, and more.

They also mention that despite the outrage, they are still looking for ways to get paid, as they are supposed to get at least $406, which is the maximum benefit after taxes, according to them.

OP then asked other Redditors if someone had experienced something similar, and the comment section turned into a battleground of everyone complaining about how Arkansas handles some of these benefits.

Arkansas Redditors Vent About the State’s Poor Handling of Benefit Programs

Several Redditors decided to vent alongside OP, claiming that this issue isn’t exclusive to the unemployment program but is part of a bigger problem.

“Our entire system is the joke.“

“Been there. Good luck, it is a mess.“

Some others believe that these issues come from the fact that those in Arkansas have voted for this type of treatment, and that citizens are, in the end, at fault.

“Realistically, isn’t this what Arkansas has voted for over the past 30+ years?“

Ultimately, it is always sad to see people talking about these experiences, especially when they are struggling so much with unemployment.
